Hey there, and welcome back. I’m Doctor Eric Chludzinski, and you’re listening to the Fanwood Back Relief Center podcast. Whether you’re joining us from Fanwood, Flemington, or anywhere in between, I’m really glad you’re here today.

So let’s talk about something that doesn’t get nearly enough attention when it comes to back health. And that’s your core. Now, when most people hear the word core, they picture six-pack abs. They think crunches, they think the gym, they think hard work. But here’s the thing… your core is so much more than that. And understanding what it actually does for your spine might just change the way you think about your back pain entirely.

Your core is essentially a group of muscles that wrap around your midsection. We’re talking about muscles in the front, the sides, and the back of your torso. Think of it like a natural brace or a corset that your body already has built in. When those muscles are strong and working together properly, they take a tremendous amount of stress off your spine. They absorb load, they help you maintain good posture, and they keep your vertebrae supported and stable throughout the day.

Now here’s what’s interesting. A lot of people who come into our office in Fanwood or Flemington are dealing with low back pain, and when we take a look at what’s going on, weak or poorly coordinated core muscles are almost always part of the picture. Not always the whole story, but definitely a piece of it. When your core isn’t doing its job, your spine ends up doing more work than it was designed to handle. That repeated stress, day after day, adds up. And that’s often where the pain, the stiffness, and the discomfort start to creep in.

Here’s what I want you to understand. Core strength isn’t just about exercise. It’s about function. It’s about how well your body moves and stabilizes itself during everyday activities. Getting out of bed in the morning. Picking something up off the floor. Sitting at your desk for a few hours. All of those things require your core to kick in and protect your spine. When it does that well, you feel great. When it doesn’t, you feel it.

So what can you actually start doing today? First, focus on the basics. Simple exercises like bridges, bird dogs, and gentle planks are incredibly effective for building core stability without putting extra strain on your spine. These aren’t fancy movements. They’re foundational. And done consistently, even just a few minutes a day, they can make a real difference in how your back feels.

Second, think about how you’re sitting. Posture and core strength go hand in hand. When you slouch, your core muscles essentially turn off. Sitting up tall and engaging that natural brace around your midsection keeps your spine in a much better position throughout the day.

Third, and this is something I tell every patient, don’t wait for the pain to be your motivation. Start building that foundation now. A strong core is one of the best investments you can make for your long-term spinal health.

Now, if you’re already dealing with back pain, or if you’ve tried to strengthen your core and something just doesn’t feel right, that’s exactly when it’s time to come in and get evaluated. Here at Fanwood Back Relief Center, we use traditional chiropractic adjustments to help restore proper movement and alignment in the spine. When the spine is moving the way it should, your core can actually function the way it’s meant to. The two really do work together. Chiropractic care and core strength support each other beautifully.

We see patients at both of our locations, in Fanwood and in Flemington, and we’d love to help you figure out what’s going on and put together a plan that makes sense for you.

So if you’ve been putting off getting that back looked at, let this be your nudge. Give us a call, stop by, or head to our website to schedule. You deserve to feel good, and we’re here to help you get there.

Thank you so much for listening today. I’m Doctor Eric Chludzinski with Fanwood Back Relief Center. Take care of that spine, build that core, and we’ll see you next time.
